Women of Christ Lutheran Church
The Women of Christ Lutheran Church (The WCLC) is an auxiliary, supporting the ministry of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, and the larger work of Christ’s Church in the world.
Our “Statement of Purpose” is as follows:
As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, and support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
We are a unit of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and have made the following commitment:
To accomplish the purpose of Women of the ELCA, women in this unit shall commit themselves to:
† Come together for study, support, and action
† Participate in the ministry of Women of the ELCA beyond the congregation
† Support financially the total program of the Women of the ELCA
† Designate leadership that shall be in communication with the synodical and church-wide women’s organization
† Our activities and mission are organized under three categories-Mission Growth, Mission Action, and Mission Community:
MISSION GROWTH involves opportunities for growing deeper in faith, including our three Bible Study circles, and working with the annual Thank Offering.
MISSION ACTION includes hands-on involvement in mission projects, such as making quilts or assembling mid-wife kits, as well as support for Cherish Our Children.
MISSION COMMUNITY includes service projects to our local community such as Meals on Wheels, “Christmas in August,” Birthday Greetings, the Nursing Home Bingo and the Christmas Shopping Project, and support of the Murray County Food Shelf.
The WCLC also organizes the Prayer Chain – a ministry of prayer on behalf of specific needs. To share a prayer concern, call the church office (507) 836-8291 or Margaret Nelson or Bernice Gass.
